Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo congratulates President Uhuru Kenyatta on his re-election

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has congratulated President Uhuru Kenyatta on his re-election calling his Kenyan counterpart a “close friend and brother” in an official statement.

“President Kenyatta is not only a close friend and brother but also a development conscious and diligent leader.”

President Farmajo said that he is confident that President Kenyatta’s re-election will usher in a time of further cooperation between the two east African nations.

“President Kenyatta and I share a common vision of peace, stability and economic growth for our two countries and the region as a whole”

He also reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to peace and economic cooperation with Kenya.

With over 50% plus one of the national vote, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Uhuru Kenyatta the President yesterday following Tuesday’s General Election.

In his acceptance speech, President Kenyatta reached out to his opponent Raila Odinga and his supporters promising that they work together.

“As I said to opponents, especially my brother, the Right Honourable Raila Odinga I reach out to you; I reach out to all your supporters… I reach out to all who are elected on now the Opposition benches. We shall work together, we shall partner together, we shall grow together, we shall develop this nation together. We are there, ready to dialogue, to discourse and engage so that we can build this nation together, he said.
