Galmudug Information Minister Ahmed Falagle said on Friday that Galmudug forces killed about 46 al Shabaab fighters, including five foreign fighters, in a foiled attack on Bahdo town in central Somalia.
According to residents, the attack, which was followed by heavy fighting, lasted two hours and resulted in casualties on both sides. Al Shabaab has admitted that nine of its fighters who carried out the attack were killed in the fighting and claimed to have killed 27 Galmudug forces in the attack.
The locals said the dead bodies of al-Shabab terrorists were scattered on the ground after the foiled attack.
The situation in the town is now calm and under the control of Galmudug security forces.
The al-Qaida allied terror group has lost many areas previously under its control, but the militant group is still capable of staging attacks in Somalia.
