In a statement Sunday, the Attorney General’s Office said it is handling cases involving “insults, defamation, social incitement, dissemination of offensive images and immoral content, spreading false information, and the promotion of societal division.” Some individuals have already faced trial, while other cases remain under investigation.
“These cases demonstrate the danger such acts pose to social stability, the reputation of individuals, and the security and confidence of the Somali public,” the statement read.
Authorities warned they will take “firm legal action without hesitation” against anyone found guilty of violating the law. “Strong legal measures will be taken to protect the honor, dignity, and security of Somali society,” the office said, stressing that its mandate is to uphold the rule of law, preserve order, and safeguard citizens.
