Uganda Formed Police unit six has been flagged off to Somalia for peacekeeping mission, reports said on Friday.The advanced team of 13 officers will leave Uganda this Saturday 15th July 2017 for Somalia and the rest will go on the 31st of July 2017.
The advanced team is expected to study the situation on ground and make preparation for the rest before they can go to Somalia.
While briefing the officers in Kampala this morning the Director Peace Support Operations , in Uganda Police Force, Grace Turyagumanawe reminded the officers that one of their key roles while on the mission is to mentor the Somali police in public order management and counter terrorism among others.
He also advised the team to always heed to commanders’ orders while on duty.
“Know your responsibility. Exhibit professionalism and integrity by putting what we have taught you in practice.”
About 140 officers will be sent to Somalia this year.
Uganda Police first sent its formed unit to Somalia in 2012 and this group will mark the 6th troop from Uganda police force to be sent to Somalia.
