State-Controlled Radio Mogadishu Director Killed In Suicide Bombing

The Director of state-controlled Radio Mogadishu Abdiaziz Guled Afrika has been killed in a suicide bombing in Mogadishu.

The director was accompanied by Somali National Television director Sharmarke Warsame when a suicide bomber blew himself at the vehicle.

Speaking to Dalsan, Ismail Mukhtar Oronjo said the Radio Mogadishu director succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.

He said Abdiaziz Africa was to travel to India on Sunday to treat his sick mother.

He was well known for his interviews with al-Shabab suspects detained by the Somali security forces. His programs attracted large audiences inside and outside the country.

The al-Qaeda linked al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack saying they have been hunting him for a long time.

The militant group has been waging a violent insurgency against the federal government since 2007.
