Somali President appoints Hamza Abdi Barre as the new Prime Minister

President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E.  Hassan Sh. Mohamud on Wednesday evening appointed Hamza Abdi Barre as the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, SONNA reported.

Speaking at Press conference at Vila Somalia, President Hassan made the announcement of the Prime Minister’s appointment, requesting the members of the House of People to pass by giving him the vote of confidence to fulfill his duties.

” I am appointing Hamza Abdi Barre who is standing my right side as the new Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, I am contented with his personality and talent and can fulfil our Government’s agenda on security, drought response, climate change and developing our international relations”, President Hassan said.

Barre was an MP of the House of the People of the 11th Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia,

The new Prime Minister is 48 year-old Somali citizen born in Kismayo in lower Jubba and and married with eight children.

He served as chairperson of the Jubaland Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commission in 2019 and 2020.
