NISA kills 12 al-Shabaab fighters in Galguduud region

Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), working with international partners, said it killed 12 al-Shabaab fighters, including senior leaders, in a military operation in the Galguduud region on Friday.

The operation, carried out in the Ceel-dhiiqo Weyne area between Ceel-lahelay and Ceel-garas, also left 13 militants wounded, according to officials.

NISA said the strike targeted a key al-Shabaab training camp that had been used to prepare more than 400 fighters for attacks against civilians and government institutions.

Security forces were pursuing militants who fled toward El-Buur district following the raid.

Military officials said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to weaken al-Shabaab’s presence and restore stability in central Somalia.
