More than 80 Al-Shabaab Militants including 5 Senior Leaders killed Galgadud region.

Somali National Army’s forces, backed by local forces have eliminated the leaders of an estimated 700 Al-Shabaab militants who launched a major attack on Ceeldheer, Galgaduud region, on Friday. The fierce battle lasted nearly seven hours, ending with the defeat of the attackers—many killed, others wounded, and several captured alive.

The bodies of more than 75 militants were recovered in and around the town, while over 85 others were wounded. Among the senior commanders killed were Cabduqani Amiir Saariyow, Saciid Ibrahim Cali Tifoow, Sabir, and Dadullah—key leaders of the group operating in eastern Galgaduud.

Wounded leaders included Macallin Ciise, Dr. Bishaar, and Carab Qamaar, who were evacuated by the militants to Galhareeri and Cowsweyne, though reports indicate their conditions are critical.

The Somali National Army also captured several fighters and seized large quantities of weapons and ammunition. Intelligence sources confirmed that Somalia’s security services had been monitoring the militants’ plans since September 4, allowing government and community forces to prepare a decisive response.

The battle began after government troops destroyed two vehicle-borne explosives that Al-Shabaab intended to use at the start of the assault, preventing any civilian or military casualties. Coordinated defenses and strong cooperation between national and local forces enabled them to repel the attack and inflict heavy losses on the enemy.

Ground and air reinforcements ensured that Somali forces maintained superiority throughout the fighting, leading to a major victory in the ongoing offensive against Al-Shabaab in Galgaduud.
