Al-Shabaab fires mortar shells at Ethiopian military base in Southwest state

Somalia’s al Shabaab militants claimed to have killed two Ethiopian soldiers after they carried out a mortar attack at an Ethiopian military base in Burhakaba district of the Bay region.

There has been no independent confirmation of the group’s claim.

The residents in Burhakaba district who confirmed the attack said that the Ethiopian troops serving under ATMIS mission in Somalia fired back heavy artillery shells at the militants.

Somalia’s Islamist group al Shabaab has, in the past, conducted similar attacks on the army bases in the country.
