President Hassan Sheikh visits Somali embassy in Washington

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday visited his country’s embassy in the United States, meeting staff and reviewing services provided to Somali citizens as part of a broader push to strengthen diplomatic ties with Washington.

The president toured the embassy’s service delivery departments, received reports on consular operations, and praised diplomats for their work on behalf of Somalia.

Mohamud’s visit came after a week of engagements in New York, where he attended the 80th UN General Assembly and held sideline talks with world leaders.

Somali Ambassador to the U.S., Dahir Arab, said the president’s trip was aimed at deepening cooperation with Washington in security, economic development and politics.

During his stay, Mohamud also met U.S. officials, politicians and representatives of international organizations to discuss continued international support for Somalia’s stability and development.

The embassy described the visit as part of a strategic effort to elevate Somalia’s international profile, strengthen bilateral relations, and advance cooperation on regional peace and prosperity.
