Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF), in coordination with international partners, conducted a planned operation in Nooleye village in the Galguduud region, killing four Al-Shabaab militants.
In a brief statement on Saturday, the army said the operation specifically targeted positions held by the militant group.
“Preliminary assessments indicate that at least four Al-Shabaab fighters were killed during the operation,” the statement read.
The offensive comes amid intensified military operations across Galmudug and Hirshabelle over the past week, despite Al-Shabaab mounting a major assault on El-Dheer district in Galguduud, where both sides reported casualties.
According to the army, the operation in Nooleye forms part of ongoing national and international efforts to eliminate Al-Shabaab and ISIS elements and strengthen security and stability across Somalia.
Al-Shabaab, which has waged an insurgency against the Somali government for more than 16 years, frequently targets security forces, officials, and civilians.
