NISA Raids Kill Militants, Disrupt Planned Attacks in Hiiraan, Middle Shabelle, and Galgaduud

The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in close cooperation with international partners, has over the past three days conducted targeted operations in Hiiraan, Middle Shabelle, and Galgaduud regions, killing at least 11 Al-Shabaab militants, including a senior commander, and destroying vehicles and military supplies.

The first operation, carried out on August 12 in Tardo, Hiiraan region, targeted a house where senior commanders and associates of the Khawarij were meeting. Seven militants were killed, and the gathering site was destroyed.

On August 13, a second operation in Daarul-nimca, Middle Shabelle, foiled an imminent attack after intelligence confirmed militant movements. Four fighters, including senior commander Abdullahi Ganey—who has played a leading role in the group’s insurgency since 2009—were killed.

The third operation, conducted on August 14 in Nooleeye, Galgaduud, destroyed a truck loaded with military supplies intended to disrupt security in Ceeldheer district. NISA forces succeeded in burning both the vehicle and its cargo, thwarting the militants’ plot.

These operations underscore NISA’s continued commitment, alongside international partners, to dismantling the Al-Shabaab terrorist network and safeguarding Somalia’s national security.
